Single-axis solar tracker: technical specification and control system
We supply single-axis trackers with their own control system: north-south axis, ±55° rotation, brushless DC drive and a controller on every table. This page covers the technical overview, the control architecture and projects in the field.

Technical overview
| Type | Horizontal single-axis tracker, north–south axis |
|---|---|
| Rotation range | ±55° |
| Drive | Brushless DC motor |
| Structure | Galvanised steel, S355 / S235 |
| Tables | 1P configurations sized to the string length (e.g. 1P14, 1P28, 1P56) |
| Bearings | Self-lubricating, UV-resistant polymer: no periodic greasing |
| Tracking | Astronomical sun-position algorithm with backtracking (terrain-aware option) |
| Control | TCU per table · NCU per site · wind/snow sensors (RSU) · software · SCADA interface |
| Wind stow | Default threshold 18 m/s, 3-second gust (site-adjustable) |
| Modules | Mono- and bifacial modules |
Control architecture
- TCU: one unit on each table drives the motor and holds the table position.
- NCU: manages all tables on the site and communicates with SCADA.
- RSU: wind and snow sensors monitor the site and send tables to a safe position when needed.
Tracking and protection functions
- Astronomical tracking: the sun position is calculated by algorithm and does not depend on a light sensor.
- Backtracking: prevents row-to-row shading in the morning and evening, with a terrain-aware option. We measured the effect in terrain-aware backtracking.
- Wind stow: default threshold 18 m/s on a 3-second gust, adjustable per site. Details: stow strategy.
- Maintenance: self-lubricating, UV-resistant polymer bearings need no periodic greasing.
Table configurations
1P tables are chosen to suit the string length (for example 1P14, 1P28, 1P56). The structure is engineered for the wind and snow loads of the site: the 3.6 MW plant in Central-East Italy was assessed for combined snow, wind and seismic loads. Check string length with the string size calculator and row spacing with the GCR calculator.

Control retrofit for existing plants
The same control system can be applied to third-party steel. On a 12 MW plant in Northern Italy, the NCU, TCU, sensors and software were replaced. Control retrofit and stuck-tracker loss calculator →
Warranty, delivery and documents
Warranty terms, delivery time and Incoterm are stated in the quote, project by project. The 12 MW control retrofit in Northern Italy includes 2 years of warranty maintenance.
If a tender or lender requires specific documents, send the list with your quote request and we will confirm in writing which ones we can provide.

Frequently asked questions
Can I buy the tracker structure only?
Yes. The scope can be tracker only, tracker with control system, or control retrofit only. State the scope in your quote request.
Why are prices not published?
Tracker price depends on the wind zone, terrain slope, pile design, table length and delivery terms. These are evaluated for your site and stated in the quote.
Which modules does it work with?
Mono- and bifacial modules. The table configuration is chosen to suit the module size and string length.
